Cybersecurity has become a critical factor in business survival and competitiveness. Given the ever-increasing level of digital maturity and the greater connectivity between businesses and public administrations, the threat of cyberattacks and vulnerabilities is only growing.

Thus, it is vitally important for organisations to have the appropriate protective measures in place to safeguard their IT systems, information, assets, infrastructure, etc.

SODERCAN, as a public company part of the Ministry of Industry, Employment, Innovation and Trade of the Government of Cantabria, in line with its functions and mission, has launched the CIBERREG project. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the competitiveness and technological development of companies in Cantabria through cybersecurity.

The CIBERREG project is part of the RETECH program (Redes Territoriales de Especialización Tecnológica) of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service, conducted by the State Secretariat for Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence, with the participation of INCIBE and funded through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The aim is to promote the socioeconomic transformation of participating regions within a digital and hyperconnected environment, fostering the growth of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector. The project is part of Investment 7 of Component 15 (C.15I7) of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, referring to Digital Connectivity, promotion of cybersecurity, and deployment of 5G.

This project, conducted in collaboration with the governments and autonomous communities of Asturias, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Murcia, and Navarra, will continue into 2026 and with a budget in Cantabria of over 1.5 million euros.

Cybersecurity Center of Cantabria

The CIBERREG project, part of the Digital Agenda of Cantabria, aims to support projects that develop regional talent in the field of cybersecurity, fostering innovation, and encouraging the adoption of cybersecure solutions, oriented towards the establishment of the Cybersecurity Center of Cantabria.

This Center aims to serve as a regional reference in the field of business cybersecurity, bringing cybersecurity culture and technology closer to companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and self-employed professionals. To achieve this, it undertakes four closely interrelated lines of action:

  • Promotion of the business ecosystem in the cybersecurity sector. This line of action aims to foster a business ecosystem dedicated to cybersecurity by providing specific support measures, the development of new cybersecurity products and services oriented towards business needs, the encouragement of new entrepreneurial initiatives, and the internationalisation of companies within the sector.
  • Demonstration Center, developing the infrastructure necessary for testing and creating new cybersecurity services and pilot projects in a dedicated testing and simulation lab.
  • Talent management, focused on promoting training and education in the field of cybersecurity.
  • Raising awareness to facilitate and enhance knowledge and the culture of cybersecurity within the business community in Cantabria.

The Cybersecurity Center of Cantabria aims to become the regional reference for companies seeking knowledge and support in cybersecurity. Its goal is to promote initiatives in the area of cybersecurity which will lead to enhanced cyber resilience within the business sector, with a special focus on SMEs and self-employed professionals.

The initiatives promoted by the Center are intended to dynamise the cybersecurity sector from both the supply side, by enhancing the services offered in the region, and the demand side, by encouraging the adoption and use of those services. Thus, the strategic objective is to contribute to the sustainable socioeconomic transformation of Cantabria within a digital, hyperconnected and, above all, secure environment.

This project represents an important milestone for SODERCAN’s strategy, due to its contribution to sustainable development and digital and technological resilience for Cantabria.

Through the CIBERREG project, SODERCAN will be able to offer companies in Cantabria a wide range of cybersecurity-related services, including:

  • Demonstrations
  • Financial support
  • Consulting services
  • Training
  • Diagnostics and Action Plans
